Artist's Description
Pyramid Rock, taken in Gallup, New Mexico. A moderately challenging hike that reveals the massive rock in the shape of a pyramid and continues all the way to the top of it. The coolest thing about this hike, other than the breathtaking views of the red rocks surrounding you, is the fact that you can't see Pyramid Rock until you are about halfway up and it's revealed to you as you come around the corner.
About Shannon Williams
Hey there! Welcome to my Gallery. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon, and am currently traveling North America capturing landscapes and cityscapes across the country. I picked up a camera before moving to Alaska where I honed my photography skills using the stunning mountains and rivers of the vast, wild tundra as my classroom.

What the Navajo say about Pyramid Rock: The peak sits within the ancestral and modern cultural borders of the Navajo Nation. In Diné oral history, the nearby rock formations (including neighboring Navajo Church/Church Rock) are highly revered as sacred markers. The surrounding valleys and trails were often used as hunting, gathering, and spiritual grounds. Beautiful photo!
